‘AEGEAN ECORUNNER’: FUEL EFFICIENCY RECORD [AEGEAN SEA, SEP 2013]

In September 2013, TRYGONS made history with the design and construction of the lightest ever commercial boat. The ‘EcoRunner’, as it was named due to its environmentally friendly attributes, travelled from Cape Sounio to Santorini Island, with a standard outboard engine, consuming barely 0,23ltrs of fuel per nautical mile! It is noteworthy that the equivalent previous ever registered record was more than twice the consumption.

‘NO-LIMITS’ FREEDIVING WORLD RECORD [SPETSES ISLAND, JUNE 2007

In 2007, world champion Herbert Nitsch delved into 214m under water with just one breath. This dive was 30 meters deeper than the previous record and involved, apart from the athlete’s physical and mental skills, specialized gear and safety procedures. The equipment that secured this attempt, namely the diving sled and the safety system used, were designed and manufactured by TRYGONS.

LARGE PRODUCTS’ DIRECT MOULD PROTOTYPING

TRYGONS was able to construct large scale CNC models of the product’s mould itself, thus directly producing first runs saving on time and cost of a real mould. This way, the first actual parts could be modified and improved after field-testing. This production method can lead to significant savings from mould fine-tuning of large (more than 1m) products.

CARBON-FIBER SPRING FEATURE INTEGRATION

TRYGONS entered a completely different sector by manufacturing for an orthopaedics company a full carbon-fiber in-shoe Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO) that includes an integrated spring feature made of the same material. The product comprises of a lateral hinge joint with a spring elevation mechanism at the level of the ankle in the lateral malleolus. This accessory provides foot elevation while walking and the product goes to show the variety of applications for composites materials and processing.

CARBON-FIBER SINGLE-SHOT INFUSION & RIB REINFORCEMENTS’ INTEGRATION

TRYGONS’ boat manufacturing history was importantly marked by the manufacture of a 14m full carbon-fiber rib with a carbon -fiber single-shot infusion, that included the rib reinforcements’ integration. The outcome was a 1TN complete plastics’ boat, 40% lighter than its polyester resin-infused version and 30% lighter than the hand lay-up version

CARBON-FIBER SINGLE PIECE PRESS MOULDING

As a carbon-fiber expert and utilizing our cross-sector know-how, TRYGONS set out to manufacture the first full carbon, rather than carbon-look, single piece sunglasses. The method used was press moulding and even the hinges were integrated into one body.
The outcome was an accessory that is light and durable, as well as stylish and with the luxurious look associated with carbon-fiber.

COMPLEX STRUCTURE SINGLE-SHOT VACUUM INFUSION

Aiming to constantly develop its techniques, processes and capabilities TRYGONS has invested in the research of complex structures’ vacuum infusion for over a decade. Building on acquired knowledge from very versatile constructions, the company has fabricated innovative single-shot (monocoque) wind blade and boat samples.

  • This production novelty is ideal for multidimensional closed parts and products, as – where applicable – it can:
  • significantly reduce manufacturing costs
  • substantially enhance dimensional accuracy and stability
  • reduce weight while increasing stiffness (polyester product with the hardness, durability and light weight of the market’s equivalent carbon-fiber product)
  • lower production time

CARBON-FIBER CLOSED MOULD INFUSION

TRYGONS manufactured, through closed mould infusion, a 100% carbon fiber hand-luggage filming studio for a customer specialized in digital video-shooting. The use of carbon-fiber and the manufacturing process followed allowed for the reduction of the product’s total weight. The gain from the weight reduction meant a stronger and heavier filming studio computer could be used. The result was the largest in capacity hand-luggage filming studio (including 4 carbon-fiber shelves) weighing merely 1400gr.
